In preparation for the release of my new book, Heart Empowerment for Empaths – Inner Alchemy to Let Go of Your Emotional Baggage, Become Loving, Empowered and Free, I recently caught up with Dr. Smith, an Empath Expert and person who has dedicated his life to his destiny.
Here are some of his insights…enjoy the interview!
1. Please tell us the 3 top distinguishing characteristics of Divine Activator empaths and how those people can “own’ those gifts. Empaths have a Divine presence and carry a high vibration that ‘activates’ others and allows energy to ‘move’ in other people, whether we are aware of it or not. The top characteristics of Divine Activators are 1) other people feel better in your presence and love telling you their stories; 2) you absorb and sponge energy from others because of your ability to activate and catalyze energy movement; and 3) You likely feel different from others and sometimes like an alien on Earth because of your deep and sacred reverence for the Divine. If you resonate with those traits, then one of our first goals to really own those gifts is to be so aware and observant of our own energy, that you notice exactly when and how this process happens. Sometimes we mistake the perception of the wounds of others as our own. In working with empaths as a counselor, coach, and energy practitioner for the last 12 years, one of the most basic and universally held mistaken beliefs I have observed is ‘why am I so screwed up?” We must learn to separate the sometimes yukky physical, mental, and emotional energy we feel from others from our OWN higher vibrational energy that is ALWAYS connected to Source energy and available to us 24/7, should we only ask.
2. What do you think is the biggest challenge for empaths is in terms of achieving the success and happiness that they desire? The biggest challenge that most empaths face as an obstacle to their happiness is learning to stop the absorption of lower vibrational energy from others that overwhelms, stresses, and drains. This is a complex process that involves usually at some level, an overactive desire to help. Often that desire to help gets out of balance and empaths give too much of their life force energy to others. This process happens because there is often conditioning that occurs in childhood that reinforces our natural desire to help and serve others. We get energetically corded to others even more when we mistakenly believe, often unconsciously, that it’s a good thing to take on the suffering and pain of others, and that it is helpful to try to fix or even rescue others. This patterning is the biggest challenge that must be ‘excavated’ and addressed in order to remove the unhealthy ways of energy cording that cause stress and overwhelm in empaths. This excavation process requires a deep willingness to look at one’s own internal conditioning, maladaptive beliefs and patterning and then asking for the Divine Source energy to lift that conditioning out of your very cells so that you can move forward with Grace into a healthy new reality. That new reality involves being connected to Source energy and being a hollow vessel of Light that will feel embodied in your OWN beautiful energy and grounded to the Earth so that any energy you pick up is also discharged easily and freely. The only ‘protection’ from lower vibrational energy you would ever ‘need’ is the Source energy from God/Spirit.
3. What is your take on energy vampires…and how does help/hinder empaths? Energy vampires cross paths with empaths who have naturally ‘diffuse’ boundaries to begin with. The connection between energy vampires/narcissists and empaths is a simple one, and it involves boundary violations. When the empath is unable or unwilling to step up for oneself and feel worthy of a healthy energetic relationship, then the cycle of being literally sucked of energy will ensue. When dealing with energy vampires who take advantage of an empath’s energy and Light, we must learn to say the word no and mean it. And ultimately that sometimes means a painful separation from the person who is draining you. This pain of separation and ending of the cycle of being drained, while intense, is temporary and ultimately for everyone’s higher good. For those in romantic or partner relationships with vampires, it involves finally listening to that internal voice and intuition that is asking you to say ‘enough!” Many empaths continue in unhealthy patterning for the benefit of others (e.g. their children or partners) because they believe that to remove oneself from that relationship is not worth the disruption it would cause. No one can force you to end an interaction or relationship with a vampire until you are ready to put your own health first. Saying no in order to say yes to yourself ultimately is better for all involved in the long run. If you decide to continue your relationships with vampires, then your own health and happiness will likely continue to suffer.
4. What does it take to feel empowered as an empath–what is your #1 practice ? Getting ’embodied’ and grounded in your own physical body is absolutely the best tool toward empowerment for an empath. Without question, practices that unite the physical body with the mind and Spirit are the best toward allowing the free flowing energy in your body and field that is required to be empowered. Empaths usually have no problem with the upper chakras – usually our crown and 3rd eye areas are pretty open and flowing. Where most of us get out of whack energetically is too much ‘fire’ energy (overthinking) that leads to a disassociation from FEELING the physical and emotional bodies (especially the lower chakras, 1 through 3), and we float off or retreat into the safety of the head. So to prevent this imbalance, things like regular exercise, good diet (avoiding the unhealthy comfort food), and practices such as yoga or healing movement are absolutely necessary to become empowered. Every empath has unique wiring and responds to different energy techniques and practices differently, and yet finding a ritual that you can use CONSISTENTLY to open your energy and let it flow in your physical body is the number one way to become empowered in your OWN high vibrational energy so that you aren’t overtaken by others.
5. If you had a crystal ball, what would you envision for empaths–the good, the bad, and the challenging? I envision a life for all empaths where your connection to Divine Love and Source energy is so strong that you literally are a vessel of healing and helping others through your mere Presence alone. I envision that you become so aware of your inherent goodness that you allow no other past programming, ancestral karma, or limiting beliefs to take root in you. That is all possible.
6. What new project are you working on and how can people reach you? I have a new cycle of the Empath Awakenings Circle group training starting on Sept 10th, running every other Tuesday for the next 6 months. Registration for this intensive group class, which also involves personal mentoring, occurs once a year, and this year it starts on Wed. Sept 4th and runs until all 13 spaces are filled, which will be no later than Friday Sept. 6th.
