Welcome to 2021!
Here is your chance to begin again, better than ever.
On a personal level, this is the time that you write down resolutions for positive change. In business, you spend time forecasting your quarterly and annual sales goals while choosing your priorities.
Since we all know that life has a way of throwing us curveballs, aka “2020” and that CHANGE is the name of the game, maintaining a strong inner stance strengthens your ability to remain steady until your goals are achieved.
Self-Mastery
Are you aware that underneath any external goal that you may have is actually a drive to feel? It’s true, what you are really after is a certain feeling; i.e. fulfillment, success, happiness or empowerment. The goal provides you with a way to fulfill upon the feeling. This is where it gets tricky. People mistakenly think they will be happy when X happens.
When you realize that reaching a specific goal won’t necessarily make you any happier, you are playing a different game, one of Self-Mastery.
Allow me to be your Sensei and invite you to make your Personal Empowerment, which is to feel happy and successful – no matter what’s going on in the world – to be one of your top intentions.
Empowered people have the ability to use what’s in their toolbox to come back into balance quickly. Unfortunately, many people don’t take the time to pack their De-Stress Toolbox which can lead to becoming disengaged, depressed or burned-out on the job.
More companies are supporting the Mindfulness Movement which is a step in the right direction. Ultimately though, self-care, a form of empowerment, is our own responsibility. It begins with understanding balance.
What is Fluid Balance?
Fluid Balance is having the right amount — not too much or too little — of any quality, which leads to harmony. In business, there’s often too much “yang energy” or the masculine, which results in striving to make something happen. Be sure to tap into “yin” which is the feminine energy of receptivity and encouragement. When you work hard and also take the time to smell the roses, you are practicing good balance.
There is a myth that perfect balance can be achieved. Not so. Not a single person, even a monk living on a mountain top is balanced 100% of the time. Things change, and your ability to consciously adapt to that change, is the most efficient path to success. So for example, if things go astray from your carefully laid out plan, you can choose to hold strong to your inner stance of empowerment, and even pivot forward.
So what might that look like you may be wondering?
In the movie The Karate Kid, remember when Daniel is balancing on one leg? In that scene, he is learning “The Crane.” He had to remain poised and calm – to hold his focus. Keep in mind, Mr. Miyagi isn’t there instructing him. This is the point in Daniel’s journey where he must master his center. He is unable to remain in one position for too long and thus regains his balance by shifting legs.
We can learn from Daniel. He doesn’t give up or expect perfection.
He just adapts.
Sometimes we set ourselves up with impossible expectations when it comes to being balanced. You will NOT be in balance all the time and it’s perfectly okay. There’s a time to build and there’s a time to tear down. Some people want to build something – a business, career or project and expect it to stay the same; getting knocked off balance when things change or become outdated.
Yet, human beings are full of infinite potential.
We are meant to evolve.
There is a natural balance in Life that we can learn to trust. Fluid balance is always moving, like the element of water. Also like water, inner balance subtly invites you to be kind to yourself. It takes practice until you discover a routine that works for your personality, work and lifestyle. Some people require mental/emotional release, some choose peaceful practices; others need to get physical. I recommend a personalized blend.
Mr. Miyagi understood that teaching Daniel to practice the basic set of skills over and over would lead Daniel in the development of his own Self-Mastery. Daniel’s training and the dedication that he puts forth – empowers him to able to face his toughest competitor. He also gets the girl and finds love, so again, he enjoys Balance.
